Small background project I have on the go to use up lots of odds and ends of wool. This little pom pom army is destined to be either a cushion cover, or depending on my patience and supplies, some sort of rug.

Retro Craft

On a hunt for inspiration I stumbled on a bundle of these Craft Magazines from the 70s. Instantly distracted, this is a whole level of craft for which I was not prepared. Patchwork, painted pebbles, basketweaving and printing your own wallpaper, I don’t think I ever need to be bored again. Think I’m going to fill the house with some knitted furnishings, before flouncing in the garden with a handmade picnic basket and floaty dress. Definitely time for the new Folkcraft.

The ultimate patchwork room, bedspread, wallpaper and curtains. Living. the. dream.

Actually surprised how many craft projects involved making decorative storage pots for cigarettes… did this really make it look cool?

Sunny Weekend in Brighton

Last weekend we had a mini adventure to Brighton, I’ve never been before and found myself going a little bit crazy with the camera for the seaside vibe. Lots of great colour and texture combinations to be found, alongside a good dose of sea air (and the very persistent smell of fish and chips). Definitely need to head back and spend some more time in the quirky shops, as well as general lounging, drinking tea and watching the world go by.

Turning Japanese

It’s been a busy few weeks full of some inspirational mini adventures. So after having a good old reshuffle of the website it’s time to get posting.

Last week I got the chance to visit the Japanese Style: Sustaining Design at Ruthin Craft Centre. With work contributed by Nuno and other Japanese artists it was great to see all their weave and surface textures up close.

Liberty Rocks!

So after keeping a beady eye on the Liberty Website I noticed some of their fabrics from the Artists within Music Collection are now reduced. One of favourites is this print by Storm Thorgerson, famously known for designing the album cover of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. Available in four colourways and now priced at £14.70, the temptation to get sewing stikes! I just can’t decide if I want a wallhanging, cushions or the ultimate seventies maxi dress…

The collection is also composed of archive prints selected by Florence Welch, of Florence and the Machine, Blur Guitarist Graham Coxon and Emilia De Poret. Alongside sketches from Edwyn Collins that have been transformed into print.

Wallpaper by Eskayel

This designer caught my eye when I was looking on Walnut Wallpaper this week. Eskayel is an artist and designer whose work ranges from contract wallpapers, fabrics, soft furnishings and stationary. Her style is distinctive, highly expressive and ethereal through the use of abstract watercolours and sensitive sketch techniques.

A Whole Fresh New Year

The past few months have flown by, but in all the best ways possible. We’ve had a fantastic wedding and three week honeymoon in Sri Lanka, and are now settling ourselves nicely in to married life as Mr. & Mrs. Wilde.
